MINE(RAL)
Developed in collaboration with Studio Gameiro and ST VINCENTS for Lisbon Design Week 2026, this collection of copper objects explores the relationship between raw material and finished object. The project grew from conversations with João Gameiro and a shared interest in the origins of materials, leading to research into Portugal’s mining history and the copper mine of Neves-Corvo in the Alentejo region.
Drawing from ore samples, photographs and industrial references gathered during this research, the works investigate how extraction, erosion and transformation can be translated into form and surface. Elements such as mining lanterns, protective structures and mining equipment serve as starting points, reinterpreted through a sculptural language shaped by copper, patina and process.
The patinated surfaces were developed together with Studio Gameiro and draw inspiration from geological layers, mineral formations and the traces left behind by extraction. Dark oxidized areas, polished highlights and subtle abrasions reveal a surface that appears shaped by both natural and human intervention.
At its core, the collection reflects on material origin, tracing the journey from mineral hidden beneath the earth to object occupying space.
